Audio Engineering and Music Production Class

Course Description


This course is for:
* Active or aspiring recording engineers
* Home studio owner/operators
* Producers, Arrangers
* Musicians, managers, agents
or anyone that will ever be in a recording studio

  This course is given once a week for eight weeks. Classes are generally given on Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM but can be arranged to fit schedules of applicants. Other classes or one time seminars may be scheduled to fit the needs of special groups. Classes will begin whenever five applicants sign up.

 The course was designed by Roger Baker, Berklee School of Music ‘69, who has over 35 years experience in the recording industry.

 The cost of the course is $375, which includes an extensive book of class notes, photos, and diagrams, as well as and Audio CD with examples of Music Production, mic placement, etc. A $75 non-refundable deposit is required to hold your place in the next class. If for any reason you are unable to attend, the deposit can applied to the next class once. A Certificate is issued upon completion, as well as a finished CD of an original production that was produced, recorded, and mixed by the class.

 All classes include extensive listening, analyzation of music styles and production, and hands on recording experience. The subjects covered include, but are not limited to:

SIGNAL FLOW: From source to finished product
ACOUSTICS: Basic acoustics for the control room and studio, including sound waves, isolation and reflection
MICROPHONES: Types, polar configurations, and placement
THE MIXER: All aspects of channel strips, assigns, EQ, sub-masters, and master sections
OUTBOARD GEAR: Including patch bay, effects, dynamic processors, and equalizers
MUSIC PRODUCTION: The producer’s role, elements of arrangements and production, pre-production, and our exclusive production/mixing theory
BASIC TRACKING And OVERDUBBING: Pre-production, set up, monitor mix, and live hands on recording and overdubbing session.
MIXING SESSION: Everything you need plus tips from 30 years in the recording business, including mastering. One class of theory plus one class hands on mixing session.

All students will leave the course with a CD that they have produced themselves as a class.
